Trace (V)

Trace (V) @ Art Mûr (2008)

Trace (V) is a hybrid structure where the usual aspect of furniture elements mixes with robotic, audio and video components. A video camera attached to the monitor vertically scans the exhibition space. The images are stored on a memory buffer. The monitor does so in the manner of a video head moving along a magnetic tape. The work has its own logic in editing the video images thus collected, related to the vertical movement of the monitor. This dynamic refers to retinal persistence, short and long term memory and oblivion. The audio track emitted by the work refers to its own mechanical movements. A narcissistic and public link is created with the structure which thus acts both as source and sink, an active witness of the passage of time.
